The incident unfolded Thursday early evening when the Woodbridge Police Department was contacted by the Stratford Police Department after they responded to Bridgeport Hospital for the report of a walk-in gunshot victim, said Woodbridge Police Sgt. A.J. Cappiello.

"The patient reported to Bridgeport Hospital Staff that he shot himself in the hand with a gun while working at a job site in Woodbridge," Cappiello said.

Upon investigating the incident, it was determined that the self-employed contractor accidentally discharged his nail gun into his hand while working at a home, he added.

The man was treated for his injury and released.

"No firearms were found to be involved in this incident which is being classified as an occupational accident," Cappiello said.
